Holiday Attractions
This is a very isolated spot. Ideal for a romantic weekend away
from the city, we are only a couple of hours from Bath and Bristol!
It is 2 miles to Glandycross - general groceries, reasonable wine,
newspapers and petrol.
Pembrokeshire and Carmathenshire are a walkers' paradise and here
at Dolwilym there is no need to drive anywhere, just head off along
the river bank on the old railway track. Take a picnic and spend
a day by the river or experience the ancient history of this area
right here in the valley.
Visit the Cromlech - burial chamber - standing stones (translates
as the lair of the greyhound bitch - name of our Cromlech!). It
is a short walk from here (5 - 10 minutes) to this beautiful spot.
A short walk away across the river is an old cromlech (burial stones)
surrounded by a circle of spectacular beech trees - a lovely place
to discover chanterelle mushrooms in June.
There is a lot of 'wildlife' here, including herons, owls, foxes,
badgers, bats and many many birds - salmon in the river (but we
don't have fishing rights unfortunately).
There are spectacular trees including an enormous copper beech
on the edge of the lawn. There are rhododendrons, daffodils and
a sweet smelling bluebell wood in the spring.
The Preseli Hills are very close and the nearest beach is about
half an hour away. If the weather is at all uncertain, (and it
often is around here) you need wellies! There are several nice
pubs and restaurants with a half hour's drive and the usual town
things at Carmarthen and Haverfordwest. We are about half an hour
also from Oakwood.
The grounds are quite extensive and there are many stone walls,
streams, ponds - plus the river nearby. Children are welcome, but
please keep an eye on them, especially near the swimming pool.
We do not accept responsibility for any accidents which may occur.
The house overlooks the ruins of the former
mansion which has many magnificent trees, including a large copper
beech and a gingko in the grounds.
This slightly quirky/new age
property has many special architectural features and really will
give you a thoroughly relaxing break away from it all in the heart
of the countryside. The Preseli Hills are close by and the beaches
of both south and North Pembrokeshire are within easy reach.
